10 Rainy Day Activities

The weather is still very hit and miss in Spring! When it's raining outside, it makes going out with the children that little bit more difficult and tedious, so here are a few ideas to battle those rainy boredom days. Write these down along with any others you can think off, put them on lollipop sticks or card in a small tin, then when bored, let the children pick an idea out of the hat to do. 1. Make your own playdough. Easy to make and great fun for the kids to help and play with. There are plenty of recipes online but we would recommend using one with Cream of Tartar in. 2. Through a Rainy day party. Decorate your living room with balloons and rain themed (blue streamers, cotton wool clouds, umbrella and welly boot) decorations. Dress up and play party games. Make some little sandwiches and cakes and sit down for a picnic tea party. 3. Make a family recipe book. Love this idea, great to pass the time on a rainy day and have a brilliant keepsake at the end of it. Photocopy or get the kids to write some out your favourite recipes from books or online, or get them to make up their own! Take photos or drawings of any of the creations you make to stick in the book. Let them go crazy designing a front cover too. 4. Have a beauty salon. Be brave and let the children lose with some cheap or old make up/nail varnish. Obviously with full supervision, this is a great way to play and bond as a family. 5. Board games. Classic rainy day activity. Next time you pass a charity shop stop by and pick a new one ready for the next day you are stuck indoors. 6. Fashion Show. Put down an old sheet for them to walk on, perhaps put some Christmas fairy lights along the edge for to make it a bit more special, then get them to dress up in any clothes from their wardrobe. This serves as a great way to do a wardrobe declutter too. 7. Boat race. Have a quick look through your recycling and see if you can make some little boats, decorate and test them out in some puddles outside or in the bath. 8. Puppet show. Make some little puppets from old socks, fabrics, card or felt, then decorate. Can be as simple as you like, glue or sew it all together, then get the kids to put on a show. 9. Design a robot. Stick some empty cereal boxes together and cover with tin foil. Decorate with buttons, milk tops etc. 10. Make cards. Write a letter or note in a card for a loved one, Grannies, aunties, uncles and friends will love receiving something so sweet. Pop out with wellies on to put it in the postbox. Any birthdays coming up? Simply get a piece of blank card, fold in half, design and colour in, then when the next birthday comes along you will have a ready made stash of cards you can send. Enjoy those rainy days. The Easy2name Team.
